Whoosh! William Blake – prolific poet, artist, philosopher, dreamer, wonder-worker, divine image-maker, was born on 28th November 1757. Look him up. Jason Whittaker’s lovely Divine Images: The Life and Work of William Blake was published this year, for example.
This Sunday (28th November) we will be lighting a candle of thanks to Blake’s memory and great spirit. One of his many visions was that Golgonooza, his beloved London, could become a new Jerusalem – not the geographical place, but an abode of peace and love where the imagination could flourish. Blake was a man of hope because, like Dante, he saw angels as real beings, and discovered that the closer you get to the Light, the more beautiful everything becomes. So, light a candle and, in the words of ABBA, believe in angels and try to see the good in everything you see. The world needs your positive energies.
