We Are All One

Portrait of Jack Angelo in blue shirt and sweater

Childhood visions showed me that We Are All One, that all humans, animals, plants, our own planet and the rest of the cosmos are interconnected and interdependent. I found that most religions did not embody what I knew as a boy to be an inner knowing. I finally encountered the notion of Oneness again in the indigenous spiritualities of Native America and Aboriginal Australia, and it became a feature of my work in healing and teaching.

Writing career

After years of writing short stories and poems, my actual writing career began in the 1970s while I was teaching in London and lecturing in Tantric Art. During this time I was an early pioneer in promoting healthy eating and vegetarianism and produced nine cookbooks.
In the early 1980s I moved to the mountains of South Wales where a new life chapter was about to begin. Renovating a large stone house led to chronic back trouble which, in turn, led me to meet the Bristol healer Dennis Barrett. This meeting awakened the healer in me and it wasn’t long before I was researching spiritual healing, then practising, teaching and finally writing about it

I became a Healer Member of the National Federation of Spiritual Healers (NFSH) in 1989 and worked as a national tutor. Since 1991 I have been giving workshops on aspects of healing, both in the UK and abroad. In 1997 I received a D.Litt from a Louisiana university for my work in this field.

My work in healing has always gone hand in hand with the teaching and practice of what I call natural spirituality – a spirituality rooted in awareness of and respect for the natural world. I have often described Nature as the unveiled face of Oneness (God), totally unselfconscious and available to all. Most indigenous peoples have this awareness and respect for Nature so it is no surprise to me that healing, creativity, awareness and stillness feature so prominently in their cultures.

New Books?

Since the US publication of Love Has Seven Colors by Bear and Company in 2017, I have been researching links between the ancient Greek Mysteries and the spiritual healing tradition. These include the practice of dream healing, via the Abaton of Asklepios, and the Wise Woman Traditions of southern Italy (meanwhile discovering interesting family connections). These researches will feature in a new departure for me: novel writing. News will be found here and in my Blog.

My first novel is a story about a traumatized woman who finds her own voice through a series of dreams that she has in the ancient Greek healing temple of the Abaton. The fact that she might be a scriptural character is immaterial – or is it?

The second novel – in which the protagonist goes of journey of self-discovery – is inspired by a family heirloom that parallels the wise- woman tradition of Southern Italy with aspects of the Ancient Greek Mysteries.

Other Creative Activities

Writing is a sedentary, often lonely way of working. All writers need another creative outlet. I have drawn, painted, whittled and generally fiddled with found objects, wood, etc since I can remember. Through a dear friend, I also discovered the wonder of stone carving (see Shaman’s Head ).
